Members and senior managers with corporate responsibilities understand the role and function of social services, how well services meet local needs and give them appropriate priority

It’s imperative that as a Social Services department, we are well supported by the members and senior managers of the Council. In Conwy, we are fortunate in that there is an excellent level of understanding and support for our services. The Corporate Parenting Strategy is a fine example to demonstrate this commitment to effective cooperation between council services.

Corporate Parenting Strategy

Background

  • Developed a three year strategic Corporate Parenting strategy
  • Five key themes developed: Home, Education, Health, Leisure and Leaving care
  • Each theme is reported on quarterly to a senior group of the ‘Corporate Parents’

What’s changed?

  • Each head of service takes a lead on developing the pledges as committed within the strategic plan
  • Stronger focus on Looked After Children and a reinforced responsibility on the Corporate Parent

What difference has it made?

Examples of developments through Corporate Parenting include:

  • Leisure passes provided for children in care
  • Celebration event facilitated for LAC on 30th May 2014
  • Engagement of partners such as health, education, leisure and housing is positive in delivering outcomes for LAC & Leaving care
